#4 NYC Street Style

There is a beautiful thing about the changing of seasons in NYC. Mainly because you start to see styles changing. The streets on NYC are amongst the most colorful i've seen. The madness of people walking in different directions, cars honking their horns and bike-riders speeding along the streets sometimes take away from the experience. When you sit down and take a minute to take a look at what everyone is wearing and all of the different colors, it can be beautiful. One of the main fall fashion staples are scarfs. And one of the beautiful things about scarfs is that they come in many different colors, patterns and styles. Its always fun to see the many different ways scarfs can be worn. It took me about 2 seconds (figuratively speaking) to realize how many people i saw wearing scarfs. I love this accessory for fall, you can pair it with pretty much any style or look.

#3 New York Times Blog

One very interesting thing about fashion is the many ways/words we use to describe what we see. When writing its important to paint a picture for the reader of what you're describing, in fashion this is especially true when you're trying to explain to someone what you felt when you saw a certain garment. i chose to "dissect" the article, "Marchesa: Under the Sea" by Eric Wilson of the New York Times blog. In this entry Wilson describes the inspiration that the designers pulled from and how it translated to the runway.

Wilson describes the trend for the Marchesa Spring 2012 collection as "Under the Sea." Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig of Marchesa noted in their program a number "nautical" inspirations. The 19th- century Ilya Repin painting "Sadko in the Underwater Kingdom" and Ernst Haeckel drawings of tentacles and jellyfish. Wilson speaks specifically about the silhouette of the dress that opened the show as a tiered dress "made of cascading silver fringe that was breathtaking." He goes on to describe design details such as: silver fringe, fringe thick as a mop, embroidered sequins, both on the fabric and some underneath layers of fabric, the movement of the dresses and the illusions created by the dresses. Wilson also mentions the "coral-like patterns" created on the models' bodies from the fabric and the embroidered sequins. Much of the fabric used was sheer tulle, organza and chiffon.

Once I googled these images and took a look at the Marchesa spring collection everything that Wilson spoke about clicked. His descriptions really painted a picture for me. The inspirations go hand in hand with the collection and the description helped me understand what Wilson himself saw as he was watching the show.

#2 Fashion Trends of Fall 2011

All The Right Angles...

I've been seeing lots of very bold stripes, lines, shapes, angles (whatever you'd like to call it), on the runways,  and I'm very interested! Fall fashion is an interesting thing, people are trying to get out of the light, floral, colorful styles and are beginning to move into deeper tones, more layering and heavier clothes. The bold stripes and geometric shapes, if you will, are a new, fun twist to fall fashion. Sometimes fall fashion can be a bit boring, as people are not looking forward to the cold weather; for those of us who don't live in tropical/ sunny places all year round. Many times fall fashion gets drowned in sweaters, pants, jackets and deep colors such as: navy, black, brown, dark oranges and mustard yellows. But this fall seems promising. Designers seem to be bringing color and fun back into fall. The bold stripes are a nice way of incorporating a pop of color to an otherwise simple piece.

Rag & Bone Fall 2011
This collection is very playful and is taking a chance. It's sort-of taking typical fall fashion and fall colors and putting a slight twist to it. Its not for everyone, but it is a very fun look for fall.

#1 Fashion Blogs From the Web

Fashion is all about being yourself and expressing who you are. Trends, styles and fads are one of the main reasons people have lost their creativity when it comes to fashion. Many people are so worried about being in-style and having the latest looks, they lose focus of their own sense of style and creativity. Fashion blogs help give doubters confidence in their own style. Fashion blogs not only help us in seeing what people are wearing on the streets as opposed to on the runway- they help us take a look at street style all around the world.
